The Michael Marks Awards for Poetry Pamphlets

These inaugural awards offer a chance for poets and publishers to enter their poetry pamphlets.

Closing date 20 March 2009

Entry free

Eligibility restricted to the UK

There will be two awards worth £5,000 each:

The Michael Marks Poetry Award will recognise a single outstanding work of poetry published in pamphlet form in the UK during 2008 and self-published work is eligible.

The Michael Marks Publishers’ Award will recognise an outstanding UK publisher of poetry in pamphlet form, based on their 2008 publishing programme.

The British Library and the Poetry Book Society are inaugurating these new Michael Marks Awards for Poetry Pamphlets, which will be supported by the Michael Marks Charitable Trust. They are intended to raise the profile of poetry pamphlets and also recognise and reward the enormous contribution that poets and their pamphlet publishers make to the poetry world.

The Awards will be judged by a panel of three: poet and performer Ian McMillan (Chair), the poet and novelist Jackie Kay and Richard Price, poet and Head of Modern British Collections at the British Library.
